Blustery day

Blustery is probably understating the situation. Professionals are comparing the winds to a hurricane. My sleep was interrupted at least a couple dozen times last night by scary wind noises. Almost all of the deck furniture has blown off, and with another 24 hours of this craziness predicted, I don't see much point in putting it back on the deck. My poor rosemary plant, which is about two feet tall was standing at a 45-degree angle when I first saw it this morning.

Our greenhouse, which is only two years old, is completely trashed. It was still half covered when I got up this morning, so I was hopeful that we'd be able to fix it, but no such luck. That's really thick plastic, and it's reinforced with threads that run between the layers of plastic, but it is ripped in multiple places. I wanted to look at it more closely, but I nearly got blown away just taking the picture, so I decided to come back inside. It's pointless to look at it more closely anyway. Trashed is trashed. It's probably a good thing we didn't get the low tunnel covers on the raised beds yet.

Someone needs to walk the perimeter of our property later today and again tomorrow. A storm like this usually results in at least one tree falling down, and it usually falls on a fence, which is statistically improbable, but somehow it happens that way. The good news is that we'll have more firewood.

I can't believe this crazy wind we're having!! We're in northern IL (Volo). There are power lines colliding, occasional power outages, our poor house is moaning from every seam, I swear I can hear the siding being ripped off, and the trees have been stripped of their beautiful gold and garnet dresses. Conclusion: two thumbs way down. :(

Yikes!

We had lovely warm breezes this morning, that are now cold winds and black clouds!

Guess it's heading over here!

I live in East Central Iowa and the winds were whipping at midnight last night. Earlier in the evening I quickly went outside and put my bird feeders away, lawn furniture , and anything else I thought would blow away..
This morning I had a dentist appointment, I could hardly keep my vehicle on the road, it was so windy...limbs on trees were all over people's yards. All the beautiful leaves were flying in the air...Yikes~! It was crazy~!

I lost my green house too. DH was going to move it into a machine shed for the winter months and then back out again in the spring. I was so grateful when I woke up in the middle of the night hearing the wind and thinking " I'm glad DH thought to move the green house" Well when we got up this morning and it was finally light enough to see the green house was scattered through the property in pieces. There wasn't anything even to take a picture of except after we went around and picked everything up- Just a big heap of junk :(. I had just gotten it less then 2 weeks ago. Apparently my son forgot to do as his dad requested and get it moved. Well- I hope the wind doesn't damage anymore of your property and the animals remain safe.

Sounds like everyone in the Midwest is having this terrible weather.

Brianne, a local college here was closed because down power lines in the road made the campus inaccessible for almost the whole day.

Tiggerific, it was funny to see your name next to the title of the post. Did you know that The Blustery Day was a Winnie the Pooh video?

Kathy, I'm so sorry to hear about your greenhouse! Only two weeks is terrible! :(

Hopefully all those who are two-footed and four-footed are safe and well.

Sorry to hear about the greenhouse. Hope it won't be too expensive to repair.

Reminds me of growing up in Colorado. Had winds like that most every spring.

And yeah, your fences need checking. :-p
