Our first mushrooms

This is purely a learning experience, but we've produced our first mushrooms. I bought one of those mushroom growing kits that you see in many of the gardening catalogs. It's overpriced for the amount of mushrooms it will grow, but I'm viewing it as a stepping stone to learning to grow our own mushrooms in compost and in logs on the back 20.

Today's harvest was 8 ounces, which is the weight of those little boxes of mushrooms you buy in the store.
And no surprise, they were really delicious!

I'm looking forward to learning more about growing mushrooms, so we can add yet another home-grown food to our larder.

I just poured rasberry vinagrette on my laptop and licked my screen. giggle.

I know it may have been expensive, but as a learning tool and you grew some AWESOME looking shrooms' I would say well worth it.

I can't even begin to imagine how good those taste. YUM!

I just bought a kit, so they tell you exactly what to do. Google "mushroom growing kit" and you'll find plenty of companies selling them. I started it about a month ago. I just need to mist them every few days. It's easier than a houseplant. They're just sitting in a box in my basement.

I love mushrooms and want to learn how to forage for them, but growing them seems easier :) Lucky you!

I'd like to try this, too.
But I have no basement. Still, I'll read up on them. Perhaps I could use a closet.

Thank you! :-)
