A new wall!

It is amazing how a person's standards can go down. Three years ago, I would not have thought a new wall would warrant a blog post, but since we haven't had any new walls in . . . I don't know when we had anything as exciting as a new wall! Mike still has a week left to teach, but this weekend, he put up three pieces of wall board! Woo hoo! The two horizontal pieces behind the wood stove are concrete board, which now we realize is overkill. Concrete board is fire retardant, so it seemed like a good idea at the time. In the summer, when we can open the windows, we'll cover this wall with ceramic tile. (Opening windows when installing tile is important, because the adhesive stuff stinks!) To the right of the wood stove is standard drywall. The basement stairs are behind this wall, so until now, this was a pretty ugly site. Of course, this is far from finished, but at least you don't see all the junk under the stairs any longer. (Except for that junk on the left, which can't get covered because the left-over piece of drywall is only 16 inches wide, and that space is 19 inches.)

You can expect more house updates during our winter break. Next week, Mike will be putting the polyurethane on more bookshelves for the library. Our goal is to have the bookcases completely done before we have to go back to teaching in January.

It doesn't take much to make some of us real happy. I am waiting for a soapstone stove to be set up in the living room. Enjoy your vacation, I remember how much it is needed.

Congratulations! LOL Believe me, when our stairway gets drywalled you will see multiple posts documenting the blessed event!

Thanks for the positive feedback! Mike is happy to know that we're not the only ones excited about our incremental progress.
