Give-Away Day!

A couple weeks ago, I discovered this great idea on the Sew, Mama, Sew! blog. Today, all over the Blogosphere, people are giving away something to their readers. I love giving things to people, so I immediately decided to participate. I've thought a lot about what to offer . . . wool roving, but not everyone spins; yarn, but not everyone knits or crochets; food provides shipping challenges. But everyone uses soap, right? So, I'm giving away three bars of my goat milk soap, your choice of fragrance (or not). Retail value, including shipping is about $20, and yes, I am willing to ship internationally. You can learn more about my soap here.

So, if you'd like to be considered, post a comment here between today and midnight central time May 31, and on June 1, I'll pick the winner. How will I pick the winner? Just tell me why you'd like to try my goat milk soap, and I'll pick the most interesting comment. In the case of a tie, the winner will be randomly chosen by one of my goats.

Oh that is a good idea and darn I wish I could think of something witty to say why I want to try your soap, I just think it would be interesting. I've never even seen goat milk soap before. Os there an 'It's your bleating bath time' flavor to use on the kids? :)

Lisa French wafrench@bellsouth.net said...

How wonderful! I'd love to try the soap for a few. I've never tried it, and I have heard it's wonderful for your skin. I dream of having goats and making soap one day! But mainly, it goes back to what I was telling my kids yesterday. We were designed to care for the creatures and their environment, and they are designed to ultimately care for us through their work, production, and companionship. I love that bond, and it's so wonderful to experience it firsthand!

Oh, wow - you're giving away some of your soap? Ever since my dermatologist told me to steer clear of ordinary soaps, I've wondered how the goat milk soap would feel. I've never tried it! Since I have serious goat envy from watching the kids (and lambs) on my favorite blogs, I think some goat soap would go a long way toward making me feel like I have a little goat in the bath with me!!!

My townhouse association doesn't allow goats, so goat milk soap is as close as I can get to experiencing the deeply interdependent relationship, known since the days of antiquity, between humans and livestock.

Btw, my association rules also specifically ban chickens, emus, bald eagles, and Clydesdale horses. Life in the city is so limiting.

This is a great idea! I'll have to think of something that I can give away. Maybe a SHEEP?! ;-)

I would LOVE to try your soap! I already know that I love goat milk soap and it would be fun to try some made by a cyber friend! I've been searching on the Internet for cinnamon-clove or orange-clove scented goat milk soap. Do you do custom orders???

Michelle said...

I wish I'd heard about this give-away day in time to think of something myself! (Yes, it's too late; we have homeschool co-op today so it's my busiest day of the week.) I would LOVE some of your soap; the last special soap I got is down to a mushy little ball in my shower! I just bought a soap holder to keep my soap drier and prevent future mushy little balls, so I can promise that your soap will be properly cared for - and oh, SO appreciated - here. :-) My little guy has the driest skin on the planet, and I've heard goat's milk soap may help him. So I'd get a scent for me and a scent for him.....

I am a soapmaker, too, but it's been awhile since I've made any as we're in a very small home at the moment and I just don't have the space for it. Needless to say, I'm desperate for some handmade bars- our last homemade soaps ran out a couple of months ago. I'd love to win yours. :)

Soap sounds like a great gift! I would love a scented one! my daughter is a bit sensitive and I would love to try this on her!

I would love to try your soap because I heard goats milk soap is the best. My boyfriend's mother bought him a bar of goats milk soap in Montana (Montana Sage) but he won't let me use it! So it sits in it's packaging, collecting dust. If I won, I would have my very own goats milk soap & I would use it all!

Thanks for the giveaway!

I don't know that I will have the most interesting reason but OMG I wanna try your soap!!! :) hehe My mom used to get me goat's milk soap, but the company she got it from went under so no soap for me...but goat's milk soap always reminds me of my mom, and now I live in a different country than her so if I won I would be getting clean and reminded of my mother..hmm, what a combination! LOL Thanks for the chance!

I have always wondered about the benefits/marvels of goat's milk soap and would love to try first hand. However, I left my dog alone with some other milk related products only to find them gone when I return...would he be burping lavendar-scented bubbles...oh, to find out.

I love handmade soap (I'm kind of a soap snob) and I don't believe I have ever tried goatmilk soap. I would love to give yours a try!

There are several reasons I would love to try your goat milk soap:

1. I adore goat cheese. Soap can't be too far off.
2. My 2 year old daughter rashes up to most bought soaps.
3. We got to pet a baby goat yesterday so goats are definately on the mind.
4. Your blog is great, your soap must be too.

I wish this could be funny....maybe nessecity will win?? My daughter has really sensitive skin, that will break out and make her ezcema worse if she uses the "wrong" soap. I think this would be great for her to try!

We just got three goats yesterday and they have been raring up, threatening mutiny if we don't start using goats-milk soap. They're kind of big, so it's scary. Please save me!!!
I do love our goats, though...when they're not on the attack. We have 2 San Clemente Island goats and 1 Nubian...so fun to watch and be around!

I love the idea of the goats picking the number! I'm almost out of my no longer available favorite soap, and I'm looking for something fun to replace it with.

I live in a condo in a big city, and I have a lot of envy over your country lifestyle. If I had your soap, I feel like I could live vicariously when I use it. :)
Also though, I have a lot of purfume allergies, and have a hard time finding soap that doesn't make me sneeze and dry out my skin. I'd never actually thought of using homemade goat's milk soap before, so I'd be really interested to try it!

Emily Cole said...

Oh, I LOVE LOVE LOVE goat's milk soap!!! I really like the lavender 'flavor' Now that my daughter is getting older (7)and running around a lot, I am having trouble getting her to take a shower or bath! She's such a tomboy... She has started to stink after having particularly active days, and I think that some nice lavender goat's milk soap would make her feel special enough to WANT to smell sweet! If I have some it's rare, so I don't like to share my special soap! If I could win 3 bars(3!!!!) I would let her have her own!!! Thanks! emandmikey@aol.com

Okay, I hate the taste of coffee (and so does my hubby), but I love the smell of it! I would love to try the unscented with cocoa butter and coffee! Cocoa butter for my 5 month pregnant with twins belly (help prevent "twin skin" stretch marks!)and coffee for my super duper sensitive smeller. Ahh, that sounds heavenly!

I've never tried Goat made soap. Would love to one day try making some myself. I have however had milk soap, and that stuff really leaves you feeling soft and smooth. I wonder what this would do for my skin, I have psoriasis and am always looking for new ways to sooth the itch and dryness. Today I am starting a special diet that will hopefully relieve my skin symptoms, then I could try the soap just for the joy of trying new soap :)
Thanks for the giveaway opportunity.

I would love to try your goat soap. I have very sensitive skin and have tried a lot of things to help with it, but never goat soap. My hands are in rough shape. It sounds really nice. It is nice of you to offer it.

SOAP is the only way to bath! Not that detergent stuff sold as 'soap' but the real deal...water, lye, fat and, sometimes, some scent. It's the only thing I've used for years and recommend it to everyone I know and folks I meet. I truly believe if people with skin problems would use hand crafted soap, those skin problems would disappear. But if their dermatologist doesn't give them permission, they'll never try it. So sad. They are missing one of the best, most pleasant experiences of their lives.
Goat's milk and other hand crafted soap not only moisturizes my skin it rinses clean.
Can you tell I'm enthusiastic about SOAP? -smile-

What a fantastic idea for a giveaway, and the goat in the photo is adorable. I've got occupational eczema on my hands which is aggravated by hot water and soap, so hopefully a nicer, kinder soap would be a great help in keeping that at bay a bit.
(The doctor says "Don't wash your hands!", but... that's gross.)

I'd love to win your goat milk soap. I'm tired of the derisive looks I get from cows who feel disenfranchised by my use of their byproducts in everyday life. I tell them that I only drink soy milk and that I'm lactose intolerant, but this doesn't seem to matter to them. (Maybe they are paradoxically offended by the fact that I can't consume dairy depite their unwillingness to share it around in good humor). Goats, however, are such pleasant little creatures who would actually be proud of the products created thanks to them. Cows are kind of arrogant, goats are friendly. I vote for goats!!

I used to have a cousin that made soap. She made the most marvelous chocolate scented kind. I remember buying two bars of it along with a few other scents. They are at every sink in my house- actually packed in boxes right this moment though:(

Goat, goats, goats,

Your cheese is divine,
Your milk is quite creamy.

Your wool makes soft sweaters,
Your baaa it's just dreamy.

I'd never use you for your meat,
What I love the most is your soap,
Such a treat!

I WANT this soap! I want it because everytime I bathe my baby girl with regular soap I imagine all the chemicals slowly seeping through her skin and ever so stealthily destroying her beautiful, pure, baby insides. In addition, I could steal a bar for myself. I don't so much care about my insides, I figure at this point I'm a lost cause, but I sure do need my outsides looking good...who knows when I'll need to trade in my husband for a younger model! Thanks and I hope I get to try your soap!

i think i'll hang around and read some of your other farm adventures.

Oh, what a thoughtful giveaway! I've never tried goat's milk soap, but my instinct is that it would be like "regular" milk soap but better. Why? 'Cause lots of people are allergic to cow's milk but I never heard of anyone being allergic to goat's milk! When a baby can't do cow's milk, you go get the kid goat's milk and he or she is set. So goat's milk must be kinder all around, wouldn't you say?

Interesting... hmm.

I'd like to try your soap because my husband has a new obsession with goats, specifically fainting goats (which I don't think are used for milk...) he thinks we should have one in our Philadelphia row home and let him sleep at the foot of our bed, kind of like a dog but instead a goat. Are you laughing now :)

Getting to try goats milk soap might actually further his cause to convince me that we should get goats once we have some land. Of course we will be living in a tent because land (not land and a house) is all we can afford. But goats are good company right?

:)

ps I'm glad I found your blog we really do intend on moving onto a couple acres in the next few years or so and it's nice to see how others have done it.

It is wreaking havoc on my skin - no matter how much lotion I use, it looks and feels very dry. I have heard that goat milk soap does wonders for dry skin, and would be so grateful to get some!

I've never tried goat milk soap before, and I've been quite curious about it. I was intrigued to read that, in addition to goat's milk, you also use olive oil in your soaps.

Thanks for participating in the giveaway!

Cheers,
Heather

For starters I have never tried Goat's milk soap. I'm wondering if it will heal my dry skin. I bet it would.

Hi, Deborah. Ever since having my son, I have been slowly turning to the green side trying to purge all the chemical-laden things that I have put in and on my body as well as my family's. And one thing I haven't tried is goat's milk soap. We live in CA, where it is hot and dry and, in the next 6 months, we'll be moving to NC, where it is hot and humid. Due to the hard water here, our skin is dry and bit flaky. I had heard that goat milk soap would be very moisturizing, but I hadn't tried any yet. I think it would be great to try it on my "kid"! Sorry, I am usually much wittier =) Thanks!

I love to try your soap because we were just on a field trip to the farm. When the farmer gave us a tour she showed us the goats and told us a bit about them. She mentioned that they make soap with the goats' milk. When it was daughter's turn to try to milk the goat, she wouldn't actually do it. But she did ask rather loudly, "Where's the soap Mommy?"

I once had the pleasure of eating a goat's milk geese round served on sla drizzed with honey and nuts from a local tree----in a rustic farmhouse in The Netherlands. Will using the goat's milk soap bring me that same pleasure?

I've heard great things about goat milk soap, yet I've never tried it. I do love all things goat though, my brother owes a nice little herd of Boar goats (they are family members and are not sold for meat). My son is collecting goat hair for me to spin. We'll have to see about that, Boar hair is not really good for spinning. :) I would love to give your soap a try.

I would love to try the soap on my 14 month old daughter. She has had horrible exzema and rashes since day one and is actually getting allergy tested in a few weeks. I have tried everything and still have not found "The thing" to make her skin smooth and beautiful.

My husband and I are building a house and we're trying to put in separate plumbing for gray-water so we can collect it and use it for watering the orchard or garden. Now we need to rethink all the soaps that we are using and make sure that they are biodegradable. So I would definitely love to try your goat milk soap... and cheer you on if you developed a goat milk dishwasher soap!
Thanks!

I would love to win. I haven't used homemade soap for a long time, and never any made with Goat's milk. I grew up drinking goats milk (my parents have a hobby farm and raise goats) and we still drink it much of the time but we have never made soap. We do like to make cheese and yogurt however. Thanks for having the giveaway.

When I was about six, my mother was birthing my brother. She sent me and my sister and my other brother to my aunt's house, where she fed us Cream of Wheat, which I'd never had, with goat's milk, which I'd also never had. I remember that flavor to this day!

I wonder, what does goat's milk soap smell like, or, heaven forbid, taste like?

Hehe! I am not sure that being interesting is my forte! Instead I will just send you gratitude and good will. Your sheep are lovely. Your blog is lovely.

Well, we have a funny goat story that we like to tell around here. When we lived in New Zealand for a year, someone put a classified ad in the local paper, wanting to borrow a goat for a week so he didn't have to buy a lawn mower. That has nothing to do with milk or soap, but it's silly!

Elizabeth said...

Our skin is dry and the crum we buy at the store is worthless. I would love to see how Goat Soap measures up. I would love to say I love Goat Soap and get all my friends hooked. We could be your Goat Soap fan club. You wouldn't be able to make enough Goat Soap to satisfy us!!

my husband and i have a strong dream of becoming goat farmers in vermont. we took a course on learning about goat farmers. we moved to vermont. then we found ourselves out in southern california far away from our dream of simply living and existing with our dream goats. goat farming has become our backup plan - if PhD programs and teaching careers don't seem to pan out for us, and we just long for a simpler existence, but it sure would be nice to have some goat's milk soap to remind us of that dream...

Oh my goodness, what a great giveaway. I love goats - they are my favourite animal. My daughter is 3 and whenever we go to the farm, we always spend a fair bit of time with the goats - petting them, feeding them. They are such characters. I always ask her if she thinks we could take one home with us - she always says we could. I ask her if she thinks her dad would notice and she tells me he wouldn't. I'm yet to try it for real though, but maybe one day, lol! In the meantime, I'll cross my fingers that I'm lucky enough to win one of your bars of soap - I think it'll be the closest I get to owning a real goat for now!

Thank you for the chance to join in with this giveaway.

Why I would want to try your soap? Let's see. For many years now I have been a stay at home mom. As most mom's know a shower is usually the high point of the day. It's when we feel relaxed and peaceful. If only for a few minutes. Add to that some yummy soap with a really pretty fragrance and we feel feminine, recharged and ready to take on the day.

Please, please post photos of your goats choosing the winner - how much fun is that??! What a lovely giveaway - thank you so much for the chance to win. The reason I want to try your soap is to see the look on my sons face when I tell him he is being washed with goats milk - it will be priceless I am sure!

Ps. ...and I adore goats. They're just so much fun and so sweet! :D
