Give-Away Day!

A couple weeks ago, I discovered this great idea on the Sew, Mama, Sew! blog. Today, all over the Blogosphere, people are giving away something to their readers. I love giving things to people, so I immediately decided to participate. I've thought a lot about what to offer . . . wool roving, but not everyone spins; yarn, but not everyone knits or crochets; food provides shipping challenges. But everyone uses soap, right? So, I'm giving away three bars of my goat milk soap, your choice of fragrance (or not). Retail value, including shipping is about $20, and yes, I am willing to ship internationally. You can learn more about my soap here.

So, if you'd like to be considered, post a comment here between today and midnight central time May 31, and on June 1, I'll pick the winner. How will I pick the winner? Just tell me why you'd like to try my goat milk soap, and I'll pick the most interesting comment. In the case of a tie, the winner will be randomly chosen by one of my goats.

I would love to win! I've been drinking goat's milk for a couple of years now as I find cow's milk irritates my eczma. i've never tried goat's milk soap before though - I'm pregnant at the moment, so my skin is extra sensitive and would love to see if it helps calm it down. Oh, one more reason is that everyone at work already thinsk I'm goat mad, so why not just go the whole hog and prove them right!

My poor botfriend's skin is not good at the moment, I thought maybe home made goats milk would help? And if not, I will use it all myself!

My daughter and I have Keratosis pilaris, it's little raise bumps on the skin of our arms. It is also sometimes called chicken skin. I have been wondering for some time if a more natural soap would help us out. I hope that was interesting enough to win the soap and see if it will work! Thanks for the give away.

I would love your soap! My in-laws have goats (just a small hobby farm) and I've dreamed of milking them, but I think you have to have a special kind of goat? I'm not sure. Also, I can totally relate to your previous post about not wanting to sell that cute little sheep. They had a boy goat whose momma died in childbirth so they named him Samson and raised him on a bottle. They just couldn't sell him like the other boy goats... he's like one of the dogs now!

I have HUGE issues when it comes to soap since most of it makes me break out. Interestingly enough my friend who is a doctor said I could possibly prevent my sexy red rash from using Goats Milk soap. Think I can find a place that sells it so I can try? Of course not! I guess she uses it on her son, but gets it from overseas. Yikes! Of course ordering the soap would be easier than ordering a goat and taking THAT into the shower with me. Can you imagine how much room a wet goat would take up?

I just had a friend recommend goat milk soap to me for our family's eczema problems. I would love to try some! We live in Colorado, and our air is extremely dry, and we all our constantly dealing with itchy, scaly skin. My friend says that goat milk soap has really helped her dry skin, and we will try anything to help us feel better :)

I really want to win this soap because I'm desperate for some relief! And also desperate to not feel like a mutant anymore, lol. For some reason, my skin has gotten sooo sensitive in the last six months and everything makes me itch. I look like I have fleas or something, I am always scratching or squirming when I'm trying NOT to scratch...lol! My sister was just telling me that goat soap might be the ticket to getting clean and not itching to death, so I'd love to try it.

Also, I really really miss my goats. We had 26 of them. We also had an emu, a donkey, lots of horses and chickens and pigs and cows...and then we had to give it all up and move to the city. So this would be a sweet reminder of all my favorite things...not itching, awesome animals and bloggers!

Oh wow - this is amazing. My favourite job in university was at a French soap store, where I learned to really love nice soap, and I've had a fetish for soap ever since! My friends think it is funny, but they comment on my soap all the time, so it is clear that I'm right! I'm sure you understand... I'm also a really big fan of goat's milk soap, especially during the winter, when my skin gets especially dry. Your scents sound fantastic, too - I love herbs in soap. The sage scent must be so relaxing. Of course, I could say something good about each one! Thanks for the great giveaway.

I would like to try the goat soap because...well..it comes from a GOAT! I mean, really! How did this all get started, anyway? Who was the genius who walked up to a cow, goat, etc. and said, "HEY! I know! I think I'll pull these things and see what comes out! Then I'll drink it and maybe make some soap out of it, too so I can CLEAN my body with it!"

Hmmm...sort of makes you think. But, alas...we use it! And it tastes good and it cleans well! It turned out to be a good plan, but STILL...someone had to be pretty dumb to try it for the first time! Don't you think?

First, I love the name of your blog.

I have been told that goat milk soap is lovely, and it might be just what I need to relieve my dry skin (I'll be 60 this year, and everything is changing...). And everytime I used the soap I would think of Sherrie--- As a teenager, I had a goat named Sherrie. She was a beautiful combo of black, tan and brown and the friendliest animal you've ever seen. She liked to nip off the blossoms on my mother's flowers, but my mother never complained. Memories are wonderful, aren't they?

I'd love to try the soap. I've haven't seen it before, but I've heard people rave about it.

I wish I had something great to say, but I just think it would be really interesting. I've tried to make soap before...and it didn't really work. So I'm in awe of people who do. Plus, I've used a number of different soaps, but not goat soap; not only is it natural and environmentally-friendly, but it's just plain cool.

I'm very very into cow-based dairy products - Milk, Butter, Cheese - I like them all better when they come from something that moos. My girlfriend has bought some lovely blue cheese chevre, but I barely tasted it, my prejudices are so strong!! Maybe, just maybe, a little goat's milk soap would help me re-consider my aversions to all things goat (well that and some really nice mohair *grin* I am a knitter too, after all!).

I would love to try your soap to share with my family and see how neat it is to use (and help) handmade things. My grandma did it, my mom and she taught me the fun reasons and here I am now, passing it to my kids too (I hope!)

Can I say another reason would be so I can have a little of your farm in my city home? and being able to share this love of handmade things. Really. tons of reasons to try your goods. Just need a bigger checking account! :-)

Earlier this week I took my toddler to our favorite local "farm" where you can feed and pet goats. We got there before the crowds and for the first time we decided to go IN the petting pen to feed the goats, rather than feed them through the fence.

Never.again. Within seconds, hungry goats with poor table manners had covered my white pants in mud and other mud like substances :), nibbled my shirt and used my waist as a stepping stool, bringing me eyeball to eyeball with more than one goat! I threw my handful of feed across the pen, grabbed my toddler and quickly backed out of the pen with my husband laughing and snapping pictures!

This city girl would love to be reminded of the many redeeming qualities of these creatures by trying a bar of your goats milk soap. Pictures can be provided :)!

We're thinking of getting our own homestead and trying our hand at being more self-sufficient. My husband and I know we'd want some animals but we're thinking it would be a good idea not to overdo it. I thought chickens and goats would be a great start. Now, I need to convince my husband that goats are useful!

When I was a baby, I had to drink goats milk. He is familiar with milk.

I've heard that they are pretty good for clearing the land a bit too. Another good use.

Soap! That would be divine. The lap of luxury.....and self-sufficiency!

I would like to try your soap because I have heard that it is very good for your skin and even better for sensetive skin. Since I was a very young girl my mom was always buying different products that swore they were okay to use on even the most sensitive skin, but it was never true, I have found that the more natural the product is the better I am able to use it but the products in stores are not as natural as they claim to be, I am hoping that your soap will be just what I have been searching for.

Btw, I think I lived your life in the past, on the frontier! I still sew, bake/cook from scratch, woodwork(inc. building some of our furniture) you name it. I love doing things that connect me with the earth, and a handmade life seems to get me there.

Hello Deborah,
I had a look around your site and remembered that a few years ago a friend gave me as a christmas present some soap she had made, either with sheep or goat's milk. That detail i cannot remember, but I do remember it was creamy and very nice. Looking around you site also reminded me that very plain soap (saponified olive oil and no fragrance) was all I used when I was pregnant. Looking at your soaps, the unscented one made with cocoa butter and COFFEE!!, both things which I love, would definitely be my choice!
Best of luck,

Goat milk soap! How interesting. I would like to try it because I could get it unscented which it is so hard to find a nice soap without scents. (Allergies) Such a very nice giveaway. Thanks for letting me play.

I got a bar of goats milk soap when I first moved out here over two years ago. I use it every day, and it is still sitting by my sink looking like a full bar. It is the only soap that doesn't dry out my hands. I went back to buy more for all the bathrooms in our home, and they were no longer selling it! Horrors. I haven't been able to find any since. I love that you make your soaps round, that is so much cuter than a plain old rectangle. I love the scents too, like blackberry sage or pomegranite rosewater. It's not witty, but it's earnest. I really hope I win :)

I love homemade soap! I've never tried goat varieties. I love that post about the Maryland goats! I can't wait to tell some friends.

My middle son has very sensitive skin, and until now I haven't found a soap that doesn't dry out his skin... even the ones that say to moisturize it. I'd love to try it with him!

Any kind of homemade soap is a special treat. I have never even heard of goat milk soap before! I bet it's really good and soothing on skin. I'm impressed right now!

Once upon a time, there was a soap maker. He was in love with a beautiful young maiden of his town. She was sweet and grateful and very nice with other people. He had just started his own shop so he didn't have much money. With the few savings he had he went to the jewerlly and bought a necklace that would fit her. It was very simple with a unique rose pendant, but this rose was the cutest one that could be found and very delicate. He went to his love and offered her the necklace, asking whether she would wait for him to become worthy of her attention and marry him then. The young woman blushed and promised him her heart. Sadly, this beauty was also coveted by the wealthiest man in the town. He went to her and proposed, sure that she would agree. But he was turned down, because the maiden was pure of heart. Furious, the man went to the town witch and ordered for the impertinent girl to be changed into a goat. The witch was very powerful, and so a goat the girl became... The next morning the young soap maker was very surprised to see a goat by his door. Looking at the poor beast, he thought that it looked very sad. This intrigued him and he went to see it. There he saw the necklace attached around its neck, and he realized that it was his love there! He went to see the witch, but she wasn't a woman of good. She could only do harm, and her curse coudn't be reversed. He then begged her to change him into a goat as well, for if he couldn't live with her as a human, then he would rather do as a goat than abandon her. The witch did as he wished, as from her point of view it wasn't a good deed to change a man into a goat. And the soap maker and beautiful woman lived happily ever after, as goats. Since then it is believed that using goat milk soap brings good luck and happiness to a couple, because of the sacrifice of the young man for love.
That's why I'd love to win a chance to use your milk soaps. Thank you so much for this giveaway. :)

In an attempt to be more green and well as trying to save a little green in my bank account, I started making my own laundry soap. I'd love to try to green my other household and toiletry products as well.

Great giveaway! The first thing that popped into my head about why I would love to try your goat milk soap is because I am lactose intolerant and goat milk has less lactose levels! But, it's not like I'm going to EAT the soap! Silly, huh?

I'm giggling at the notion of your goats picking the winner! I worked at a restaurant that kept goats on the roof (during nice days only, of course), and know how frisky those little guys can be! I'd love to try your soap because I want to be in the running to have one of your goats pick me. :)

Your soap sounds divine. I would love to try it because, well I love all things goat: Goat cheese, goat milk, goat curry...haha, I really do.

But, in all seriousness, I have sensitive skin and I cannot use commercial soaps. I would love to try out some of these soaps & if they are as gentle as they look, it would be great to add these as a bit of variety to my normal soap which is getting a bit boring!

Many moons ago, we had a small bit of land with a variety of beloved critters. Now and then, some baby something or other (I can't remember if it was calves or pigs) would be left without a source of momma milk. Goat's milk is almost a universal food for non-goat animals, so we made friends with a lady who milked her goats. It was important to make friends with her, because not many people around here had goats, and even fewer milked them-besides, she was really nice.

She made lovely goat milk soap, and just as the milk was was universal for food, I think the soap was universal for skin.

She moved away, we left the farm, and I haven't had any goat milk soap in years. And I'm getting old!!! My skin would thank you, and so would I!!

I'd love to try your soap because I've heard that goat milk is very moisturizing. Plus, I have problems with many commercial soaps. They definitely make me itchy.
I'd especially like to try a soap made with essential oils.

You must be very happy, having sheep and goats :) I just found your blog, but I will surely read it through during next weeks.
I'd like to try your goat milk soap, because
- I like goat milk and cheese
- I've got a very dry skin and I think a milk soap would not be bad for it
- and I like the visual appearance of your shop and your soaps!

You mentioned roving and yarns. Do you sell them, too?

Ohhh, I'd love to try your soap. I have extremely dry skin and I have tried goat's milk soap before and it is wonderful! It leaves your skin feeling so soft. I will definately check out your shop. My soap is down to a sliver. I don't think that this comment is whitty, but rest assured, your soap would be well loved and appreciated here!
