A new bull

No, it's not a bovine bull -- it's a pit bull that someone dumped out here. He is the sweetest dog imaginable and gets along fine with all the animals he's met so far. We're keeping him in the barn office for the time being. He also seems to be housebroken.

But here's the wrinkle. I'm afraid he has a broken leg. The skin on his belly is also scraped, swollen, and red. I wonder if he was thrown from a moving vehicle and landed on his belly. His left rear leg points out about 45 degrees instead of straight forward, and he won't sit on that side. He favors it when walking, but if he forgets himself and puts too much weight on it, his back end just collapses. I've sent two emails and left a phone message for a pit bull rescue, but no word yet from them. I'm nervous about the possible vet bills, so I'm hoping they're able to help. I even told them we'd foster him until he can find his new home. Any other ideas or suggestions?

sit tight. I bet they will get back to you. Alot of breed rescue groups are purely volunteer, and tend to call back when they can. I am crossing my fingers for the best outcome....I worked professionally in rescue for 4.5 years and I LOVE LOVE LOVE pitbulls. Every single one I ever worked with was an angel. I know, every dog is their own. But it's one breed that has a super soft spot in my heart, after my time in the rescue world. Bless you for taking care of him!

Interesting post, I would like to share some thing important about penis health.

"Treat Your Penis As If It Were an Athlete"
Peppino, the spokes-penis, says that your penis, just like an athlete, needs vitamins, supplements and minerals in order to provide peak performance and always to be in top shape. Hear what Peppino has to say about which penis-specific vitamins are necessary to maintain penis health and keep your sexual performance at a winning competitive level. Given what your post was about, that is one of the funniest spam comments I've ever read! Peppino the spokes-penis indeed.

I agree. That has to be the funniest spam I have ever seen!

Good luck with the puppy...

Good luck with the dog. I hate it when people dump animals. He also might have been rolled by a car.... that could have caused the injury.

The other thing .... take it to a vet or the humane shelter and check to for a micro-chip. Might be one. Most vets use them now and if he is friendly ... he was someone's pet.

Yep! Definitely a winner for spam comment of the week. LOL

I hope the rescue gets back soon and they should since you are agreeing to foster him but they are stretched thin.

I know you are making him comfortable and the chip checking idea was excellent. My vet insists on it - so chances are he might have one.

Good luck. And give him a little pet for me.

I thought about the microchip yesterday, but if somebody dumps a dog, what's the point of finding the person who dumped him? People are giving away dogs on Freecycle and Craig's list all the time, but I know someone who has a boarding kennel, and when I called her she said that rehoming a pit bull is tough because of their reputation. Still no word from the rescue.

As for Peppino, I MUST remember not to use such words in my blog. One of my most popular posts is the one about using a burdizzo, and I know it's not because there are so many people who want to castrate goats or sheep! I think I'll edit this post to say 'the skin on his belly' and if you know anything about male dog anatomy, it'll be clear enough.

Don't give up on rescue!! A woman that I work with has THREE rescue Pits and they are the sweetest dogs! They CAN be re-homed!!! I have a rescue Border, a rescue Pyr and my Irish Wolfhound....if I had the room I would have a rescue Pit! God bless you and your good heart!

I also have a soft spot for pit bulls. They have a bad reputation, but are really, really sweet dogs. You might want to call a vet and explain what happened - you never know they might be willing to take a look at the dog without payment. If your normal vet can't do that - I would definitely call the local shelter and explain what is going on and I bet they could either help or know of different vets that would be willing to help out.

Peppino amuses me.

So what do you think you'll find on the side of the road next year? Two kittens last year, a pit bull cross this year...
